Three NGOs have come together to create wash facilities for Cape Town homeless
Implementation: Nina Manzi started with a 1-year research study based on the Sustainable Development Goal 6 (access to clean water and sanitation in South Africa), and bringing our community engagement, project management experience to the table guiding the different experts in homelessness, water& sanitation, funding, marketing and of course some business plan.
Together we have developed a project that will provide a sense of dignity, health and community for people experiencing homelessness in the city. Thanks to prior collaborations, both organisations realised how visual arts and communication could be used as a tool for improving access to clean water and sanitation for the most marginalised members of society.
Baz-Art hosted workshops where participants challenged by homelessness were able to communicate their experiences accessing hygiene facilities through visual arts - drawing, painting and other media. The data generated through this process made the struggles of participants in accessing hygiene and bathing facilities much clearer to the organisations and helped to identify the kinds of solutions which suit them best.
Impact: The first trailer consisting of showers and toilets hit the road in July 2022. A sustainable plan for funding the day-to-day cost has been put in place to continue developing the program and growing access to clean water for people who live on the street.
Baz-Art values the relationships we build with our partners, Viva con Agua and U-Turn, the project was supported by the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cape Town. Every step of the way in our projects, we pull in the most effective members of our team to ensure that we are meeting the client and project goals, while responding to real social issues. We combine clear business acumen with big-picture creative thinking to address critical local social issues, with education, community and quality at the heart of our undertakings.
