ART SPEAKS LOUDER FOR YOUNG LEARNERS
Strategy: In June 2022 Baz-Art created two educational murals highlighting climate change. Ithemba Walkway in Gugulethu and Portland Primary School Mitchell’s Plain now sport two eye-catching and thought-provoking murals to inspire residents to take action in their own homes and communities to combat climate change.
Implementation: These two striking murals were developed between the Baz-Art creative team, artists and community members. The murals share positive messages about climate change action while having the murals speak to the spirit of the places where they were painting. Distinctive symbols were used to reach a broad audience.
Community recycling and eco-brick making were included, alongside performance art. In the course of facilitating these workshops, mentors were nurtured to become long-term change makers and climate change ambassadors.
Every step of the process was documented by Baz-Arts photo and video team, and the content created was used by our marketing manager to drive an online media campaign to continue to grow awareness around the educational project and climate change.
Impact: Art is a powerful tool for reaching minds and changing hearts, providing reminders for calls to action and community transformation. Participating in the creation of an art work can leave a very deep impression – especially for young learners.
