VIRTUAL REALITY: Virtual Museum of Plastic (UK/SA)

Strategy:  To create the first-ever Virtual Museum of Plastic: a ground-breaking virtual museum that includes art, environment, science and education. It is a museum of the future, a museum that anyone can visit and where anyone can meet, for free and from anywhere in the world. It was built on the idea that future generations can learn about plastic and plastic activism. In other words, it is a museum in the metaverse.

Art & Technology: Our Baz-Art creative team conceptualised the art works in both the real and virtual world. Baz-Art project managers trained the artists to sculpt and paint for Virtual Reality (VR). Combining pixels and paint, the physical with the virtual, six Baz-Art artists painted real-world plastic pollution-themed murals and created 3D installations inside the digital museums.

The roll-out of the Museum of Plastic included educational workshops with our community arts facilitator who introduced VR technology into schools in and around Cape Town.

Impact: The Museum of Plastic was so compelling that it was featured at the 2021 COP26 in Glasgow (UK). The museum is accessible through phone, desktop and VR headset. Check it out at www.cura.tours/mop2121

This project was the 2022 Business and Art South Africa Beyond Boards award winner and created in collaboration with Greenpop and Cooperative Innovations

At Baz-Art, we are continually finding new ways and build creative partnerships to combine art and technology to push boundaries in how we help our clients communicate and leverage multiple art media for social transformation.
