Project Management & Research: Flanders Three Year Plan

Implementation:  This remarkable sculpture marks the inception of a series of groundbreaking art installations that will be set in Cape Town CBD for the reveal and then travel to neighboring locations for long-term display. Baz-Art's head festival project manager collaborated with a talented Flemish artist and a local production team to revolutionize the traditional concept of sculpture. The captivating artwork, entitled "Living the Sinking Ship," serves as both an entertaining and enlightening artwork that captivated the interest of park-goers.

Research: Our latest installation at the International Public Art Festival not only showcases breathtaking artistry but also represents a critical step in a three-year research plan focused on developing sustainable strategies. Thanks to our strategic partnership with the Governance of Flanders, we are conducting research on the impact of public art on various aspects of local communities such as the economy, placemaking, urban design, and sustainability. The project has also facilitated Flanders representatives' participation in the International Public Art Conference 2023, solidifying the partnership's importance as a knowledge exchange hub for research and strategies.

Impact: The findings gained through Baz-Art's conducted research will ultimately qualify public art as a key contender in promoting sustainable development in Cape Town and the Western Cape region. This artwork also represents the cultural exchange and ties created by Baz-Art between South Africa and Flanders. As part of the project's duration, a Flemish artist will create an artwork in South Africa, while a South African artist will reciprocate by creating an artwork in Belgium.
