Gijs Vanhee is a Belgian artist whose childhood passion for drawing and graffiti has transformed into bodies of work that spreads out over paper, canvas, print, digital art, and mural paintings. The narrative illustrations feature bird-headed humans inviting the viewer to take time to stop and look around, to search in the details for stories or questions about how humans have drifted away from who we are. These ‘Freebirds’ can be seen as humans freeing their minds through imagination. This sculpture is the first sculpture that Gijs Vanhee created. His aim was to ensure that his paintings came to life. Similar to most of his artwork, he searches for a tension between tranquility, balance, peace and chaos.
