My work is titled "Mamawam", a Zulu word that means my mother. The mural is to pay homage to women in the mother city of South Africa, Cape Town.
The artwork conveys a message to the public about how women are being challenged in South Africa with our high rates of gender-based violence(GVB).
The mural is to bring the image of joy and respect to female figures special to my country. I used vibrant colours from the Tsonga women to portray the woman figure as a symbol of happiness, and the background shows the causes of the problem often linked to GVB, such as abuse and numbing the country's issues. I hope to highlight the positive side of being a woman in this nation with this artwork.
