Motelseven started painting in the streets at 16 years old. At 21, they had their first solo exhibition at 34 fine art in Cape Town, which then took them overseas, where they had two more solo exhibitions at Stephanie Hopkins in London and Willem Kerseboom in Amsterdam.
Motelseven travelled to New York in 2009 to attend an all-female jam in Minneapolis and, upon returning, painted at the Roskilde festival in Denmark and countless events in Dublin, Oslo, Los Angeles, Paris, London, Malmo and Stockholm.
They came back to Cape Town in 2012 to do one more solo shows before taking a 10-year break to focus on their pastry career. Motelseven came back to Cape Town mid-pandemic and started to feel that they were ready to establish their roots again. Motelseven uses numerous mediums to express their world - dreamy and child-like with melancholia that makes the audience feel joy and slight discomfort.
