Marlene Steyn is a Cape Town-born figurative painter and sculptor, whose work is fed by radical theory and psychology. Drawing from a multitude of references, her work moves through the limits of language to subverting their mediums into fluid and elusive interpretations.
The scale of her sculptures conveys a physical presence that allows the viewer to indulge in self-reflection. As in her paintings, she continues to play in the realm of boundless experimentation using form and colour, producing thought-provoking works that speak of subconscious spontaneity. Marlene Steyn’s work has been featured in numerous public and private collections, including the inaugural exhibition at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) in 2017.
