Elizabeth Kruger is an anthropologist who also works as a rubbish alchemist, transforming trash into items of beauty and delight. She uses materials cast out by society to bring wonder and happiness to the people who experience her installations and describes her Lotus Garden Decor and Design items as earth-friendly.
Elizabeth's use of waste plastics draws attention to the consumption of fossil fuels and petroleum products, and the quantities of material humanity produces that are used once only, and then thrown to the waste heaps. These items of beauty symbolise transformation, and also transform places into spaces of inspiration. Bamboo she harvests locally provides a sustainable foundation for much of her work, and she gets a kick out of merging organic with inorganic into new hybrid art forms
Elizabeth cut her teeth on plastic upcycling with the Boom Festival lighting team, and developed her style progressively at South African psychedelic and art festivals over time. Her bamboo started in Costa Rica 20 years ago, and she continues to learn and play with this incredible grass. Creating beauty, joy and healing spaces is her creative directive.
