#YOURBESTSHOT is the first iteration of a Covid Vaccination awareness campaign spearheaded by Accelerate Cape Town and Santam in Partnership with local non-profit, Baz-Art. This campaign consisted of a carefully considered selection of participating street artists and communities and was set up to create and reflect impactful, representational, accessible, and positive Covid vaccination narratives through the medium of Street Art in 6 different communities.

The artworks were created within a framework to trigger discussions and conversations about their content and to amplify positive awareness of the vaccination campaign in a joyful manner. To further enhance the campaign, the participating artists were trained to become Vaccine Ambassadors (Vax Champs) to spread the positive message through their murals. The project brought together local street artists, community representatives, Baz-Art Production teams, Accelerate Cape Town, as well as other local supporters from the community.

This approach was used to create one iconic sized mural as part of the International Public Art Festival. As well as five unique large scale murals located in low Vaccination communities across Cape Town.

The unveiling of the campaign’s signature piece took place at a 180sqm location on the corner of Loop and Strand Street in Cape Town’s CBD at the International Public Art Festival. The work consisted of five local artists – Bushy Wopp, Mernette Swarts, Silas Ras Moetse, Wayne BKS (aka Conform) and Dekor One.

“There is a natural synergy between this campaign and the IPAF – especially given the latter’s 2022 theme of ‘Humanity’,” says Neptal Khoza, Head of Market Development at Santam. “The last two years have tested us all in ways we could never have predicted. What is needed is for us to stand together, united in our common humanity, taking the steps necessary to move forward from this global pandemic. This forms part of our Santam’s longstanding commitment to contributing towards the fight against Covid-19. We believe street art is a powerful medium to spread a message of hope.”

Five Unique Large Scale Murals

A total of five individual art murals were painted which incorporated text into the artwork. Each artist was given creative freedom to create a work for the campaign under the ‘Your Best Shot’ slogan. If you would like to learn more about the message behind each artwork you can find a QR code at each of the murals, linking to a video interview in which each of the ‘Vax Champs’ trained artists discuss their mural and encourage members of the community to be vaccinated.

The murals are displayed across the greater Cape Town area in Athlone, Bonteheuwel, Delft, Langa and Mitchell’s Plain.

“Each piece of art has been specifically created to reinforce the positive aspects of receiving the Covid-19 vaccination,” says Lauren Fletcher, project manager at Baz-Art. Key messages include accountability for personal and individual health, comfort when connecting one-on-one with partners and friends, protecting one’s family, serving one’s community, and ensuring freedom of movement and safety for all, across our beautiful country and continent.”

The six murals had a total coverage of 335 SQM and are open for public viewing. Should you want to learn more about the project please reach out to us at or view our latest video. At Baz-Art we believe art is a powerful tool for education which is why we were so honoured to partner with Accelerate Cape Town and Santam to create these artworks.
