But five years ago, he decided to turn his life around.<\/p>\n<p>MJ:\u00a0&#8220;<em>After I kicked my drug addiction and went for rehabilitation, I realised that I needed to do something life changing &#8211; not only for myself, but for the broader community of Mitchell\u2019s Plain, aiming mainly at the young children and youth&#8230;<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35\" src=\"https:\/\/baz-art.co.za\/highlights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/mj_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" srcset=\"https:\/\/baz-art.co.za\/highlights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/mj_01.jpg 960w, https:\/\/baz-art.co.za\/highlights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/mj_01-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/baz-art.co.za\/highlights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/mj_01-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Every day, Mark runs free arts and crafts classes at the Mitchell\u2019s Plain Library and Yellowwood Primary School. He welcomes about 500 kids per week. This year it will be the fifth year that Mark is actively involved in serving his community. He specialises in abstract art and creating 3D sculptures from recyclable material.<\/p>\n<p>MJ:\u00a0&#8220;<em>With my background and what I have been through, I never thought in a million years that I could even come close to what I have achieved today. A few months ago, as we were busy looking for an Art teacher, he joined the team. We decided to finance Mark\u2019s courses in Mitchells Plain, giving him a salary and providing him with arts material.<\/p>\n<p>MJ:\u00a0&#8220;<em>My work is still progressing and I aim to go as far as I can with my mission.
